Paul assumed the role of CEO of the company during its formative period and worked closely with the land owners of Viti Levu as well as the government of Fiji. The result was the development of one of the largest tropical timber nurseries in the pacific as well as successful trials of improved germination and growth rates for the plantations.
His company engaged in various trials and research projects which has increased the intellectual property of the company. One such project resulted in Paul being award the ‘Agro-forester of the Year’ award in 2010 for the work he carried out on livestock production within plantation zones.
Serving as Chairman for a period the company, Future Forests (Fiji) limited achieved all the milestones set and gained respect within the rural populations as well as regionally. In 2011 under Paul’s management the company successfully listed on the South Pacific Stock Exchange becoming one of the only Agricultural/Forestry companies to do so.
Currently the work that Future Forests (Fiji) limited is engaged in focuses on improved genetics which has resulted in Teak trees achieving growth rates in line and in some cases exceeded the international norms. This genetic resource is planned to be shared with the other pacific island nations.
In 2012 Paul was invited to become a Fijian citizen and is now proud to call himself a member of the Pacific Community.
Currently Paul is working on several other but allied projects dealing with Biomass Cogeneration of electricity from forestry wastes and the development of large scale timber seedling nurseries for the reforestation of Fiji.
His other qualifications are as a Medical Herbalist and Naturopath as well as a specialist in tourism development and management from which he has worked for the Sheraton, Hilton and Accor international companies.
Paul Thompson Evers has committed himself the professionalization and promotion of forestry within the Pacific community for economic growth and environmental protection.
