Micronesia Visit – 8th Micronesian Non Profit Congress
The PIDF was represented by the Secretary General at the 8th Micronesian Non Profit Congress held in Tumon, Guam from 18-19 of April.
During the Congress, the PIDF Secretary General presented on an innovative approach for Pacific civil society’s engagement in sustainability development goals and commented that the construct of the PIDF and design of its Charter strongly align with Agenda 2030.
Participants were informed of the importance to formalize mechanisms for increased and inclusive engagement of Micronesian Civil Society Organisations with Government in the monitoring and reporting of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and mainstream the 17 SDGs into government policies, plans and legislations.
His presentation also highlighted the PIDF strategic direction and various activities undertaken within the Pacific in terms of ocean action, climate and island resilience as well as how CSOs role in decision making is inclusive in the PIDF governance structure.
The Secretary General whilst in the region, held meetings with the President of the Senate, House and Senate Members of CNMI and its Governor, Hon. Ralph Torres, and with the Guam Speaker of the House and Lieutenant Governor of Guam to discuss areas of co-operation and the membership to the PIDF grouping.
