MINISTER KUBUABOLA HIGHLIGHTS UNIQUE PLACE OF PIDF IN THE PACIFIC

In his maiden speech yesterday Tuesday 14th October 2014 in the Fiji Parliament, Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon Ratu Inoke Kubuabola MP highlighted the unique place of the PIDF in the development of the Pacific. He stated:

“Fiji sees the entire Pacific – not just the South Pacific – as an integrated region that is driven by the shared value of “Collective self-reliance as an Engine of Growth”. Because of Fiji’s geographic location and relatively more developed status than most other Pacific States, it is the obvious hub that can take a more significant role in Regional Cooperation through the newly established Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF). It is the first platform in the Pacific focusing specifically on green economies and sustainable development as established in the U.N.’s Global Agenda on Sustainable Development. PIDF’s inauguration has also launched a new era of regional cooperation through partnership and genuine consultation between Governments, Civil Society groups and the Business Community, hitherto excluded from the Pacific Governments’ decision-making processes.”
