PAKISTAN AND PIDF TO WORK ON PARTNESHIP AGREEMENT
The Pacific Islands Development Forum and Pakistan agreed today to begin work on a partnership agreement that will facilitate cooperation between the PIDF and Pakistan.
Visiting the PIDF Secretariat in Suva today, Pakistan’s new High Commissioner to Fiji, Australia, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea, H.E Naela Chohan discussed with PIDF Secretary General Feleti Teo how PIDF and Pakistan may cooperate in the area of sustainable development.
The two sides agreed to begin work immediately on a Memorandum of Understanding that will provide for collaboration between the parties for signing at the Third PIDF Leaders Summit from 12 – 14 August 2015 this year.
Speaking after the meeting Mr Teo said,
“Pakistan has been supporting measures envisaged particularly at the United Nations, aimed at furthering the sustainable development of the SIDS.
We are pleased that today we can discuss how we can work together to pursue our common interests and aspirations in the area of sustainable development.
The need for concerted action with regard to development cooperation is both higher and urgent as never before. We are pleased that today Pakistan and the PIDF can agree to step up our collaboration through formal processes such as an MOU.
