TIMOR LESTE GIVES NEARLY HALF MILLION DOLLARS TO PIDF
29th November 2013: The Government of Timor Leste has handed over USD$250,000.00 or FJD$467,551.90 to the Pacific Island Development Forum to assist in the establishment and operation of the organization.
Acknowledging the donation the Minister for Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation Ratu Inoke Kubuabola said:
“We gratefully acknowledge the generous assistance and financial support provided to the Pacific Island Development Forum by the Government and the People of Timor Leste.”
“The support received will go a long way in helping the PIDF provide the people of the Pacific with the services that has been sorely lacking in the Pacific at present”.
“The Pacific has never had a space where their public sector, private sector or civil society representatives can meet freely and discuss openly issues of development that are relevant and important to them.”
“Now this is for the first time available to them through the PIDF as was seen in the inaugural meeting of the PIDF in Nadi last August when public sector, private sector and civil society leaders from the participating countries sat together as equal partners to discuss their development challenges through the green economy.”
“We were honored to have His Excellency Xanana Gusmao, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste speaking as the Chief Guest at the inaugural meeting of the PIDF last August”.
“The latest assistance from the Government and the People of Timor Leste is further sign of the deepening relations Timor Leste has with the People of the Pacific.”
