TUVALU FOREIGN MINISTER VISITS PIDF HQ
The Honorable Taukelina Finikaso Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade, Tourism, Environment and Labor for Tuvalu visited the Pacific Islands Development Forum Secretariat at 56 Domain Road, Nasese this morning Wednesday 22nd October 2014. He was accompanied by his Permanent Secretary, Mr Temate Melitiana, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Trade, Tourism, Environment and Labor, Tuvalu.
In welcoming the Minister to the Secretariat the Secretary General of the PIDF Mr Feleti Teo noted that the Minister’s visit follows the successful and historical visit last Friday 17th October 2014 to the PIDF Secretariat by the Prime Minister of Tuvalu the Hon Enele Sopoaga.
The Secretariat updated the Minister on the work of the PIDF and its future plans. The Minister was also able to tour the Secretariat building.
The Minister is not new to the PIDF having represented Tuvalu at the Second PIDF Summit that was held in Nadi in June this year.
Commenting on the visit the Minister said:
“Thank you very much for the visit to the Secretariat of the PIDF. It was a very good experience for me as I was able to learn what PIDF stands for and what its vision is.
It’s very important that we from the region visit the Secretariat and learn about their work and plans so that we can work together for the betterment of the region.”
The Minister explained that he will be able to return to Tuvalu after the visit and brief his Government and update them on the PIDF since his last brief to them after the Second PIDF Summit.
